One year ago today as we were grieving the tragic loss of Lauren Cecil, a group of friends decided that we must “do something” to honor her memory. We started by opening a bank account, a gmail address and a Facebook page. Within two weeks, we had more than 4,000 Facebook followers. Since then, you have shared our daily messages of inspiration that have become part of our collective healing process. Hundreds of you have made contributions, attended 5K races, the golf tournament, Lauren’s Play Day and endured Cold Water Challenges. You wear purple shirts, swim suits and bracelets as a daily reminder to “Live for Lauren”.

A few months ago, Lauren’s parents challenged us to “think big.” Lauren’s Ladder was established to spread Lauren’s love by supporting the educational, emotional, physical, social and spiritual growth of children in her community. Through your generosity, Lauren’s Ladder has supported local church youth groups, the Hospice Children’s Grief Camp for children who have lost a parent or sibling, swim coaches to train young swimmers to reach their full potential, and honored a deserving high school graduate with a college scholarship.

We’re only getting started. With your continued support, we can do more together to honor Lauren’s memory. The Board of Directors is working to make Lauren’s Ladder a registered 501(c)3 organization. We intend to sustain this organization for years to come. We can do this with your help.

On behalf of Lauren’s family and the Board of Directors, thank you for your financial and emotional support over the past year.
